Made in the Shade of St. Johns, Florida, was born when Holly Yourkovich, a 30-year veteran of the teaching world, decided it was time to trade in her chalk for a measuring tape and her textbooks for fabric swatches. After all, there’s only so much glitter a person can handle in one lifetime.
Holly’s final teaching gig, wrangling 5- to 12-year-olds in art class, reignited her creative spark and stirred a desire to dive into the world of home interiors. Realizing that launching a business from scratch was a bit like trying to keep a room full of kindergartners focused, she opted for a franchise. Enter Made in the Shade, a ready-made recipe for success that let her skip the start-up stress and jump straight into what she loves most: connecting with people and home interiors and design.
